LAMPOONING • POLITICAL • COMIC & OTHERWISE
These are the times that tries men's souls and women's just as well. I have never been a person who has been preoccupied with politics but the last few months of America's trials and tribulations have pulled me into the midst of it so completely that I had to find a way to vent my frustrations. I began to sketch out of a need to direct my frustrations into some sort of positive product. We've seen our country sink into the very swamp that the current president joked about draining. Social and political cartoon images have been part of our social experience since the earliest days of the world that we know. The 18th century was full of it although by today's standards much of it seems stinted and rarefied, but if you try to move your brain to that period you may find it quite funny and exceedingly pointed. Some of it comes off just as "raunchy" and pointedly if not more so than what we produce today. As David Niven said in the the film "Please Don't Eat the Daisies" (appearing opposite Doris Day), we must commit ourselves to "yell tripe whenever tripe is served" and believe me there's enough "tripe" floating around these days to sink two or three battle ships if not a whole armada. So I'm doing what I can to quietly change minds and help people come round to do right by our country. We'll see won't we.
